MSF: New Trustees and New Goals
With guidance from the international helpers and recommendations from a combined Muhmmad Subuh Foundation/World Subud Council selection committee, three new and one continuing trustee were chosen by the World Subud Association directors and MSF trustees for four-year terms ending at the 2014 World Congress.

The new trustees are Samuel Simonsson from Spain, Lawrence Fryer from Germany, and Shyam Wadhera from India; the continuing trustee is Olvia Reksodipoetro from Indonesia. They join Ibu Ismana and Hannah Baerveldt, continuing trustees whose terms end two years from now. Olvia stepped down as chair and the trustees elected Samuel to fill that position, and Lawrence will serve as treasurer as well as trustee. The foundation will continue to search for one more trustee. Read full document (pdf)

Call for Nominees: Nominations open for Trustees of the Muhammad Subuh Foundation
At the World Congress in New Zealand, January 2010, the terms of four Foundation trustees will come up for renewal or replacement: Olvia Reksodipoetro, Leonard van Willenswaard, Simone Paige, and Dahlan Foah.  Any trustee who wishes to stand once again for a subsequent term will submit to testing with the international helpers at the World Congress.  The directors of the World Subud Association, in coordination with the Chairperson of MSF, will decide on his or her re-appointment. Testing may show that not all trustees should continue on the board, or there may be trustees who do not wish to extend their length of service to the Foundation, so nominations are now open for these trustee positions.

If the thought of working towards strengthening Subud in the world in a team environment appeals to you, consider contacting your National Committee or any MSF Trustee or World Subud Council member to put your name forward for nomination as a Foundation Trustee.  The deadline for nominations is 30 September 2009.

The term of office for an MSF trustee is for 4 years. The nominee should have an understanding of the Subud organization and proven experience working effectively, harmoniously and reliably for the Subud organization. The trustees are working trustees; the hours of work per week will vary, but a minimum of 10-15 hours per week is expected. Areas of responsibility include investment, application assessments, public relations, fundraising, website maintenance, communications, liaising with MSF national liaisons, and much more. Financial background/experience a definite plus. Active membership in Subud for at least eight to ten years is considered necessary, as well as basic skills in English or adequate translation services available at the candidate's disposal. Nominees need to be able to attend an annual board meeting, and an annual meeting with WSC, which generally coincide. No salary or compensation is paid to trustees, with the exception of airfares and accommodation for the annual meetings.

Nominees should provide a copy of his/her Curriculum Vitae or Resume (describing professional experience and Subud functions held) and three references from Subud members.  A Selection Committee consisting of members of the WSC and MSF will review the CVs and may contact the references. The WSA directors will base their final decision on the information received, personal interviews, MSF Board recommendations, and guidance from testing carried out by the international helpers, with the candidates if present, at the World Congress in New Zealand.
For further information, see the Trustee Job Description (pdf).

Please send nominations, accompanied with CV and references, to MSF Administrator, Lillian Shulman: lillianshulman@netscape.net

Call for Nominees: Nominations open for National Liaisons of the Muhammad Subuh Foundation (MSF)
At the MSF Annual Meeting in Poio, Spain in May 2009 it was decided that the terms of MSF National Liaisons, like all similar Subud positions, should be time-limited.  As such the term of all current MSF National Liaisons will end at the upcoming World Congress in New Zealand in January 2010.  It was also decided to propose an increase in the number of MSF National Liaisons from one per country to two or three per country – if the National Committees agree.  The hope is that small teams of up to three such National Liaisons per country would be more effective than a single National Liaison often working alone.  So, nominations are now open for these National Liaison positions and the National Committees are being asked to nominate a few people for this role.  The MSF Board will then review the nominations and make the appointments.

MSF cannot meaningfully fulfill its role as the primary economic engine needed to help finance the growth and development of Subud in the world if it does not have an extensive network of dedicated, proactive and engaged National Liaisons helping to, among other things, increase MSF’s presence and to facilitate donations, enterprise contributions and bequests.  If the thought of working towards strengthening Subud in the world in a team environment appeals to you, consider contacting your National Committee to put your name forward for nomination as a MSF National Liaison.  The deadline for nominations is 30 October 2009.

The term of office for an MSF National Liaison is for 4 years. The nominee should have an understanding of the Subud organization and proven experience working effectively, harmoniously and reliably for the Subud organization.  MSF is looking for people who are proactive, results oriented and reliable.

A key role of the MSF CEO will be to work closely with the MSF National Liaisons to support them in this work and to work cooperatively with the National Committees.  MSF will establish a listserver so that the National Liaisons and MSF CEO can share information and support each other in doing this work.  MSF also plans to meaningfully involve the National Liaisons in key discussions and decisions.

Nominees should provide a copy of his/her Curriculum Vitae or Resume (describing professional experience and Subud functions held) and two references from Subud members.

Please send nominations, accompanied with CV and references, to MSF CEO, Rayner Sutherland: Rayner@dccnet.com.

August 2005 – March 2006 News

As stated in the mid year report MSF has been very greatly blessed with donations and bequests this year. Two donations of  $100,000 each have been given for Subud Houses, two bequests and a payment for MSF’s shares in Flochem over 10 years by the company at a value that has greatly appreciated since the shares were donated.

Sachlan Fraval and fellow directors have donated 2 million options at 1 cent each for MSF to buy shares in their newly acquired company Environmental Solutions International. Once converted, 1 million shares are for the benefit of WSA and 1 million for the benefit of Subud Australia.

The meeting in Bangalore will be an opportunity to discuss when and how many options WSA would like MSF to convert. Other subjects for discussion with WSC will be:

 * the proposed Joint  European Union /Susila Dharma Britain water project in Kingantoko DRC which will require MSF to guarantee to co-finance the project with the EU for 129,000 Euros over 31/2 years.

Hadrian Fraval summary of the MSF Work in the Last Four Years

Since the last Congress in Bali in 2001, MSF has had 4 meetings at Big, 2002 in the UK, Rungan Sari, 2003 and finally in June 2004 again at Rungan Sari. These meetings last for four or five days and are packed with detailed discussions of how to distribute our limited grant funds of approximately $120,000 each year. Let’s now look at the balance sheet of MSF at the time of the Bali Congress compared to now and give details of projects funded over the last 4 years. Read full speech (.pdf)

MSF Report 2001 – 2005
The Muhammad Subuh Foundation has continued to follow the mandate as renewed by WSA at the last World Congress in Bali, that is, to support the long-term projects of WSC, to support the acquisition of latihan facilities and to support the initiatives of Subud members. Although, the past 4 years has not seen direct grants to the Wings, MSF has tried to respond to the needs expressed by WSC in the social and cultural fields.

APRIL 2005

Mid Year News – MSF Responding to Members’ Needs as a Nascent Fund Raising Service

Of the Subud House grants approved at the MSF Board meeting in Rungan Sari last June two have been given: one of $5000 to Purwokerta in Java and the second of $20,000 to Lisbon in Portugal.

The Lisbon group is in the process of buying the second floor of a ware-house which it is converting into rooms for latihan and offices with the intention of supporting the project by leasing the facilities.
The property is well located for this. However, the 4 floors of the warehouse have first to be legally subdivided and this can be a lengthy process.
As the group is already renting the premises and wishing to start with the conversion, MSF has changed the grant to a loan to help with the renovations. Once the purchase is able to go through this loan will be converted into the original grant. This is the first time MSF has funded a group before the property is in Subud ownership.

MSF seems very slow moving but often this is due to the legal processes that a group has to go through – as in the case of Canberra where $20,000 has been granted but not paid – before building can start and the grant disbursed. Or indeed, where the group for one reason or another is not ready.

There have been no new house applications for 2005. However, with only a budget of $50,000 pa the number of houses that can be helped is limited and no doubt there will be several made during Congress.

Recently MSF has been asked to hold money for members who are fund raising for a variety of projects. In agreeing to this MSF is fulfilling another aspect of its role as a Foundation in the service of Subud members.

MSF has agreed to house a fund to raise the cost of a house for the Prio Hartono family. This is from those who wish to express their gratitude for the time Mas Prio spent as a helper in the States.

MSF has also agreed to house a fund for the Bina Cita Utama School in Rungan Sari which it is planned to open to the public in July 2005. Parliamentary permission for this National Plus School has just been given. A National Plus school uses a combination of western and Indonesian Curricula and methodologies and is bilingual – in this case English and Indonesian. In the first phase of development the latihan hall will be used to start with 40 children, comprising of 15 children from Rungan Sari, 5 children from scholarships and 23 children from Palangkaraya.

To see the real interest from the Palangkaraya community it is planned to have an open house day at the end of April. Hopefully there will be 23 children from Palangkaraya who can afford to pay full tuition. Otherwise there will need to be more children on scholarship schemes or other plans.

Karim MacDonald and his family from Western Australia have just arrived to join in teaching and developing the school. It is also planned to hire local teachers, who will receive in house training.

The rooms around the latihan hall need to be repaired and converted into bigger sized rooms which will be more suitable for classrooms. The bigger classrooms will also make better facilities for Subud meetings. Muchtar Martins has given a drawing for the renovation which has to happen soon to be able to start in July. It is hoped to be able to submit grant applications to MSF or other donors in the very near future.

Bachrun Bustillo is the coordinator for fundraising for the Bina Cita Utama School project. He is also working on the scholarship program. For further details on scholarship and funding please contact him at Kalimantan@email.com or bcu.school@rungansari.com.

The children of the school are working together on a quilt which will be put on auction at the World Congress. The proceeds will go towards scholarship/tuition for their soccer mates who come from Sukamulya, the village across the road from Rungan Sari. These soccer mates come every afternoon to play soccer with Rungan Sari children, and they have stated their dreams of attending Bina Cita Utama School. The wonderful thing is that this idea comes from the children themselves - they really wish that the local children will be able to join their school.

In addition there is MSF's 1 : 3 matching fund with ISC toward helping young members attend Congress. So far about US$ 36,000, has been paid into the fund to which MSF is adding a matching grant of US$ 12,000.
MSF still has a further $8000 set aside for this fund which will become available if another $24,000 can be raised.

This would provide a resounding total of $90,000 towards bringing young members from around the world to Innsbruck. Should anyone wish to support any of these initiatives please go to msubuhfoundation.org fundraising page and connect onto the link on the top left hand corner if you wish to make a contribution.
