“Bapak reminded us constantly that the growth and spread of Subud would be accomplished by the "proof" of the value of the latihan [the spiritual practice of Subud] as demonstrated in our outer lives. He frequently stressed the importance of the social work of Subud which involved education, information, health and caring for "the human community”. These are the 'principal concerns’ of the Muhammad Subuh Foundation.”

Grants

Foundation grantmaking

A grant is a commitment by the Muhammad Subuh Foundation to make payments to a Subud organization over a set period of time to further the work of our vision and mission. The Foundation gives the grantee autonomy over management of the funds, but all grantees must sign a letter agreeing to abide by the terms and conditions of the grant. The Foundation administrator, Lillian Shulman, ensures that the grant-making process—from preparation of the grant recommendation to processing final reports—conforms to the Foundation's procedures and standards.

Historically, the MSF annual budget for all grants has usually not exceeded US$150,000. Of this amount, up to US$60,000 annually is allotted for Subud houses and rental support. The annual grant budget is approved in advance by the directors of the World Subud Association.

Grant applications are reviewed by the Foundation trustees twice a year, so it is strongly recommended to have applications in as early as possible for trustee review. Applications are submitted to MSF, with copies to the relevant organization(s). Most of the Foundation’s grants must be coordinated with one or more organizations within the Subud Association to ensure proper due diligence of the application, so your patience is appreciated. The Foundation trustees have the final decision on awarding grants.
