Bapak called us pioneers and asked us to lead the way. We have gotten as far as we have. We now need to provide the next generation of members with the tools to be able to carry on better than we have. The BLF is a way for us to insure that future generations of Subud members will have the finances to carry on Bapak's work.
The Bapak Legacy Fund is a permanent endowment fund for Subud established in honour of our founder, Y.M. Bapak Muhammad Subuh, and in gratitude for the gift he brought to us all: the latihan kejiwaan of Subud. Its purpose is to build long-term financial support in order to strengthen the existence and future of Subud throughout the world. As an endowment is a gift that lasts for generations, many churches, universities, and other nonprofit organizations who are serious about the importance of their mission count on endowment funds as the cornerstone of their overall long term funding plans. With an endowment fund, the principal is continually invested. Distribution comes only from the income the fund earns, and can only be spent for the purposes designated in its charter. The Bapak Legacy Fund (BLF) is no exception. BLF must grow to a substantial level (five years or one million dollars) before any disbursements can be made from income the fund earns, and then only 50% of its earnings may be distributed. The Fund must grow to a higher level (ten years or ten million dollars) before 100% of its income can be disbursed. The Fund's principal is continually invested and reinvested but never disbursed. The stated objectives of the Bapak Legacy Fund are to provide endowed resources to facilitate the mission and goals of our World Subud Association as described in our Association's Preamble and as set forth by Bapak Muhammad Subuh: To facilitate the worship of God through the Latihan Kejiwaan and to provide for the other needs of the Subud membership; To preserve the practice of the Latihan Kejiwaan so that it will remain available to people everywhere in the form in which it was originally practiced under the guidance of Muhammad Subuh Sumohadiwidjojo. To encourage peace, harmony, and understanding among peoples regardless of their ethnic origin or religion. To provide educational, cultural, charitable and other facilities for the development of the full potential of human beings; to relieve poverty and deprivation; to encourage cultural activities and values which enrich and enliven the human spirit; to encourage the development of a healthy and harmonious inner and outer environment for the well-being of mankind; to encourage the entrepreneurial spirit which enables people to express their true talents and develop the capacity to improve the quality of their lives; to make available information concerning the Latihan Kejiwaan of Subud. Fund management rests with the Muhammad Subuh Foundation which bears the name of our Founder and whose work is to protect and develop Subud's international assets both now and in the future. As MSF is incorporated in the State of Virginia in the United States of America, the Fund is also governed by the laws of the State of Virginia. As such, the Uniform Management of Institutional Funds Act ("UMIFA") guides the use and expenditure of the principal, net appreciation and income of the Fund. MSF is also reviewed annually by our World Subud Association. The Bapak Legacy Fund offers Subud an opportunity to recognize itself as a viable, living organization in the world community that can contribute to improving the quality of life in our world across a broad spectrum of spiritual, social, cultural, and entrepreneurial endeavors. When a person reaches true maturity in life, he or she looks for ways to give back to the world from all that has been given in talent and knowledge to him or her. It is the same for an organization which is a group of human beings, a family, if you will, with a common interest or mission. Since Subud's mission comes from Almighty God, it must by its very nature seek to improve life in all ways on our planet. It must by its very nature, seek to create harmony and peace among the family of mankind. To achieve our mission, Bapak once advised, "we have to work to do something to make our situation secure and strong so that our hopes can be fulfilled." The Bapak Legacy Fund has come into existence not only to make our situation secure, but also to embrace our obligations as Subud members, so clearly stated by Ibu Rahayu Wiryohudoyo shortly after the founding of the Muhammad Subuh Foundation: "One of our obligations as Subud members is to honor the name of bapak Muhammad Subuh as the founder of Subud, and to carry on the effort and work for fulfilling the needs of mankind in his/her worship the One Almighty God, both for the requirements of this world as well as the hereafter. "The Muhammad Subuh Foundation is not separate from Subud and Subud's interests. It exists as an integral part of the World subud Association, and is a legal body whose work is to protect and develop Subud's international assets, both now and those which will be given in the future." The Bapak Legacy Fund is a way of growing Subud's future together. And in Bapak's name, we can particpate together in the reality of the future of Subud. You can help in several ways.
